The CounterParts CD Release Party - NOVEMBER 20th, 2009

Photobucket

Please come celebrate the launch of our new independent record label, Beatrock Music. The party will also celebrate the label's first official release, The CounterParts' self-titled debut album. We have a stacked line-up of live performances by label artists and affiliated musicians from all across California:

THE COUNTERPARTS: T-Know, BraelanB, Otayo Dubb, Gammaray and Fatgums are patnas who have been making music together since the '90's. Reunited to form The CounterParts, this allstar crew is ready to rock the mic and turntables once again. Download their album Appetizer for free:

BAMBU & DJ PHATRICK: Two-thirds of the legendary group Native Guns, Bambu and DJ Phatrick have been spending the last few years rocking stages across the globe. These dudes bring it live. For more info visit http://www.bambu.la and http://www.djphatrick.com

RHYTHM NATIVES:
Southern Cali's illest live hip hop band cooks up an organic mix of hip hop, jazz, R&B, and soul. Now in the studio with producer Asi Friedman, the 'Natives will be releasing their highly anticipated full-length album in early 2010. For more info visit http://www.rhythmnatives.com

OTAYO DUBB: After two records with acclaimed hip-hop group Co-Deez, Oakland emcee Otayo Dubb is going solo. 'Tayo defines his sound as "Blue collar hip-hop for the Joe Dubsacks out here who like to light up a fat one and get their headnod on after work." His solo debut, entitled A WOLF IN SHEEP'S MUSIC, will drop in early 2010 as a collaborative release from Beatrock Music and Hella Records. For more info visit http://www.myspace.com/otayodubb

POWER STRUGGLE: Spitting grimy yet intelligent Midwest rhymes over Mister REY and Fatgums’ sample heavy score, Nomi of Power Struggle brings a new rawness to Asian American hip hop. Watch for their new album entitled Remittances, slated to drop in December of 2009 on Beatrock Music. Download the album sampler for free: http://www.zshare.net/download/65378110473f7f9b/

AESTHETICS CREW: In the hallowed brew-
school tradition of cup-in-hand rhyming at backyard house parties, the Los Angeles-based Aesthetics crew is here to put the fun back in the funk. Following in the footsteps of legends like the Get Fresh Crew, Native Tongues or 3rd Bass, Indi, Aidge and DJ Props fuse candid rhymes with melodic beats to create a refreshing sound in the midst of a stagnant hip-hop scene. For more info visit http://aestheticscrew.com/

ROCKY RIVERA:
Rocky Rivera (aka EyeASage) is a vicious MC from San Francisco. She dropped her hood classic mixtape, "Married To The Hustle" in 2008 and is releasing her highly anticipated debut album "Rocky Rivera" soon. For more info visit http://www.myspace.com/eyeasagemuzikpage, http://www.youtube.com/eyeasage and http://www.guerillabusfare.com

BWAN & MISTER REY: The deadly combination of BWAN's spitfire lyrics and Mister REY's head breaking production make this San Francisco duo a force to be reckoned with. Together they send an arsenal of true-school Bay Area hip hop straight to the eardrums. For more info visit http://www.myspace.com/mistahrey and http://www.myspace.com/bwan1

The evening will be hosted by Bambu.

Mass Movement DJs and DJ Phatrick
will be on the wheels of steel.

BEATROCK MUSIC

So, it's been slowly becoming officially official, and now it's pretty much official - Beatrock Music is now a record label and the music wing of Beatrock. I can't tell you all how excited I am about this!

We have a bunch of new projects and releases on the horizon:

The first unofficial release will be FATGUMS X BAMBU ...A Peaceful Riot... on VINYL. The first 20 copies sold at beatrock.com will come with a free copy of another unofficial release by Mass Movement, entitled ...A Peaceful Riot... THE SAMPLES.

...A Peaceful Riot... THE SAMPLES

Then we'll get to the original, brand spanking new releases. The CounterParts will be dropping our full-length debut album sometime this fall. This one promises to knock hard with production from Gammaray, Otayo Dubb, myself and a few others. Lyrically, you'll get the passionate spitting of MC T-Know, the knowledge-dropping insight of BraelanB, and the swagged-out lyricism of Otayo Dubb. You'll also love the guest spots we got on this one. Some examples are Tahaj the 1st killing it on our Bay Area anthem "Home in the Bay", Bambu, Kiwi, and DJ Phatrick strapping up together again on "Guns of Cali", and Nomi of Power Struggle dropping poetics on "The Message".

The CounterParts

Thanksgiving day marks the release of the new Power Struggle record entitled Remittances. Nomi, Mister Rey and I have been putting in some major work to mold this record into one of the best projects I've ever been a part of. Drawing from his experiences from Minneapolis to New York, to the Philippines and back to San Francisco, Nomi takes the listener on a musical journey through life, politics, love, and struggle. This dude is a true street poet.

Nomi of Power Struggle

Beatrock Music will also be teaming with Hella Records to release Otayo Dubb's first solo album entitled A Wolf In Sheep's Music. The record is slotted for release in early 2010. You'll hear a lot more about this project in the near future, but all I gotta say now is that Tayo is one of the most talented musicians I've ever worked with. His talent can be heard on his previous critically acclaimed releases: Royalty by Co-Deez and The Luv Ones Mixtape.

Otayo Dubb

We're also in the process of putting together a Beatrock Music mixtape that will feature all of your favorite artists from up and down the west coast to across the nation. Also, look out for tons of merchandise from slipmats to t-shirts, all designed by the good folks at Beatrock.

Check for the new Beatrock Music website coming soon at http://www.beatrock.com/ and the record label LAUNCH PARTIES in Los Angeles and San Francisco!!

SF WEEKLY - Best of 2009 - ALI WONG

Check it out:

http://www.sfweekly.com/bestof/2009/award/best-comedian-1524944/

"Comedians are often ambitious egotists with poor boundaries who aren't hiding how intelligent they are. Ali Wong is all of that, plus she has the things that really matter: wit, timing, experience, and a unique hairdo. We're so proud of her! She delighted and embarrassed fellow comedian Bobby Lee when she interviewed him for Hyphen magazine a while back, saying she forgave her sister's dog for sniffing her crotch while she had her period: "I know he means well. He just wants beef, that's his world." Eeew! Love it. Wong's clarity of vision isn't limited to her menses; she also hilariously goes after racists, poets, her sexual partners, and American Apparel. All this has landed her on Jamie Foxx' Laffapalooza! and made her a busy and popular local comedian. " - SF WEEKLY

Watch out NY, pretty soon it'll be: ALI WONG = NY TIMES BEST COMEDIAN OF 2010
Congratulations Ali Wong.com!

And for everyone out in New York, go check Ali out June 22nd at the Gotham Comedy Club:

LOUDVINE - The CounterParts Video Interview

check it out:

The Counterparts Interview

A while back I met these guys via myspace. It took a while, but we got it done. Loudvine finally got the opportunity to sit down with The Counterparts- a collobo of mcs and producers. The Counterparts are so much more then a bunch of guys with microphones and fancy beats. The Counterparts act as a collective leaving their stamp on the musical landscape.

The Counterparts are five buddies that are making and sharing the music the only way they know how; staying true to the very core. It was a real treat to sit down with these guys. Sit back and get to know The Counterparts
